ACE 2016 Final ECi Problem with Tweak

The 2016 Student and Young Professional Programs offer a mix of academic competition, career development, networking, and fun social events. The 109th Annual Conference & Exhibition is a great opportunity for students and young professionals to get the latest technical information, present and publish work, and have their voices heard by academicians, government, and industry leaders.

YP/Student Joint Events

Join us for “YP Wednesday” this year at ACE! With a mix of technical, networking and social events, you will gain skills all around.

SPEED NETWORKING
Young professionals and students are invited to engage in a fast paced networking exercise. Participants will ask questions, explain their goals and get experience in the cirtical skill of networking, plus get the inside track on what it’s like being a practicing professional. Wednesday, June 22, 9:30 – 11:00 am, Room changed to Celestin AB.

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL / STUDENT NETWORKING RECEPTION
Everyone is invited to a networking reception for young professionals, students, and A&WMA professionals. This year’s reception will have appetizers and drinks at Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar, voted ESPN’s #1 Sports Bar in the USA. In the past 10 years, Walk-On’s has officially become the go-to place for homemade food and an incredible experience.

INTRODUCTORY TECHNICAL SESSIONS
These sessions are a popular Louisiana Section innovation. They will consist of a series of talks on how various processes and control devices work, and are ideal for YPs and others who want to gain a better understanding of these industrial processes.

Young Professional (YP) Events

YP MENTOR BREAKFAST
This annual professional networking breakfast gives young professionals and recent graduates the opportunity to network and be mentored by an experienced environmental professional. For established professionals this is a great opportunity to connect with the industry’s next generation of rising stars. Wednesday, June 22, 8:00 – 9:00 am, room Imperial 5ABC. Cost $15. Please note, registration is required by June 13, 2016.

EXECUTIVE FORUM LUNCH (NEW!)
Wednesday, June 22 12:00 –1:30 pm, Imperial 5ABC

This new YP event will provide attendees with a unique opportunity to learn from successful professionals on how to grow their careers. A panel of distinguished professionals from different parts of the environmental field will provide invaluable insight into the highlights of their careers. Representatives from industry, consulting, legal, and the regulating perspective will help show the differences among the specific areas. Each member of the panel will discuss their individual approaches on how to handle major decisions, reaching goals, working in changing industrial climates and helpful advice for Young Professionals or those wishing to make a career change. Ticket required. Cost. $50.

Student Events

ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE INTERNATIONAL (ECi) COMPETITION
The Environmental Challenge international (ECi) Program is a student team competition to prepare and present an optimal solution to a complex “true-to-life” environmental problem. Open to undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students as well as YPs in their first year after graduation. Use your skills, learn to work in a team, and possibly even win cash prizes!  Teams must register by May 23, 2016.  Review the ECi Problem and Protocol now.

AEESP-AAEES-AWMA MEET AND GREET LECTURE AND BREAKFAST
All academicians (e.g., students, professionals, and contributors to AWMA’s educational programs) are welcome to this great opportunity to network with colleagues and enjoy a continental breakfast.

STUDENT WELCOME RECEPTION
Students participating in the Student Paper, Student Poster Competition, and the Environmental Challenge International (ECi) are invited to meet and network with fellow students from around the world. STUDENT CHAPTER EXCHANGE
Join your fellow students, Education Council representatives, and A&WMA staff for the Student Chapter Exchange to network and exchange ideas about A&WMA’s Student Chapters. Learn what it means to be a part of a student chapter or get tips on how to form a chapter of your own. Tuesday, June 21, 12:00 – 12:30 pm, Storyville Hall.

ACADEMIA 101: HOW TO APPLY FOR AND GET A FACULTY POSITION
Students and Young Professionals interested in pursuing jobs in academia are invited to learn about the academic job search process and how to prepare for an academic job. This is also an opportunity to meet with university representatives.

STUDENT AWARDS CEREMONY AND RECEPTION
All students and professionals participating with the Student Program are invited to the Student Awards Ceremony and Reception, which will honor exceptional students who have received scholarships, poster awards, platform paper awards, thesis and dissertation awards, and ECi awards. The Exceptional Education Award will also be awarded at this event. Wednesday, June 22, 5:00 – 6:00 pm, Storyville Hall.
